Chairman Joseph Byrd was elected to serve as the Chairman of the Quapaw Nation Business Committee.
Prior to being elected, Chairman Byrd worked for the Cherokee Nation as a compliance manager, overseeing daily compliance of all Cherokee Nation gaming properties. He was also a marketing manager for Downstream Casino Resort, the Quapaw Nation flagship gaming property.
Chairman Byrd graduated from the University of New Mexico School of Law with an Indian Law certificate. He also holds a Masters of Jurisprudence Indian Law from the University of Tulsa School of Law and a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Northeastern State University.
Chairman Byrd is from Tahlequah. He is a descendant of Chief Victor Griffin, the last chief of the Quapaw. He is buffalo clan and has deep roots with the Quapaw community.
